Open-source dendrometer — measuring water stress through the plant

The need: listen to the plant, not just the soil

Soil probes tell you what the plant could drink; the dendrometer tells you what it is going through. By measuring micro-variations in trunk diameter — contracting by day, swelling back at night — you read the water status of the tree or the vine directly. It is the indicator closest to the plant’s physiology, but commercial dendrometers remain expensive and closed.

The solution: open development with OSFARM

FURGO is developing its dendrometer within the open-source collective OSFARM: mechanics, electronics and firmware all published, so the hardware stays repairable and the agronomy community can validate the measurement. Transmission and alerts rely on the proven building blocks of the range — long battery life and reporting to the Supervisor.
