Davis connected rain gauge

Know exactly how much rain fell on each plot, without driving out and with no subscription. The Davis tipping-bucket mechanism, connected by FURGO.

390  excl. VAT — recommended retail price No subscription

What it solves

  • Know the rain that actually fell on the plot, not at the station 15 km away
  • Stop doing the rounds of manual rain gauges after every rain event
  • Keep control of your data: free export, no platform imposed

All documentation

Included in the price

  • Tipping-bucket rain gauge built on a Davis Instruments base
  • Aerodynamic cone with bird spikes and debris screen
  • Universal mount for fixing to a pipe or wooden post
  • Access to the FURGO visualisation platform, no subscription
  • Clear manual and technical support based in France

Technical specifications

This rain gauge uses the tipping-bucket mechanism from Davis Instruments — the benchmark in professional weather stations — and FURGO adds the transmission: every 0.2 mm tip is counted and the total is reported automatically, over LoRaWAN, NB-IoT or GSM depending on the model. You check the rain that fell on the plot from your phone, when you wake up, without going out to empty a graduated tube.

Why a Davis mechanism

A low-end rain gauge underestimates totals as soon as the wind picks up, and one leaf in the funnel is enough to skew a whole rain event. Here, the aerodynamic cone limits the effect of the wind, the screen keeps out debris and the spikes discourage birds from perching. The result: readings you can use to decide — trigger an irrigation run, justify a treatment, or not.

Your data stays yours

The hardware, the firmware and the documentation are open source. Readings are displayed on the included FURGO platform, but nothing locks you in: open API, CSV, Excel or JSON export, local or cloud storage, your choice. If FURGO disappeared tomorrow, your rain gauge would keep working.

No subscription, in practice

You pay for the sensor once, and that is it: the platform and the alerts are included, with no annual billing. On the GSM/NB-IoT versions, only the SIM card plan needs topping up after several years of use — a few dozen euros, just like a battery you replace. It is not a rent, it is a consumable.

Frequently asked questions

Do I have to use the FURGO platform?

No. The platform is included with no subscription, but it is not mandatory: the API is open and your data exports as CSV, Excel or JSON to your own farm software. You store your readings wherever you want — locally, in the cloud or in a compatible tool.

Do the readings stay reliable in strong wind?

That is the point of the Davis base: the aerodynamic cone limits losses in strong wind, and the debris screen and bird spikes stop a leaf or a blackbird from skewing the totals.

Can it work with my other FURGO sensors?

Yes. It plugs into the same platform as the FURGO frost, temperature and humidity sensors: one screen for the whole farm, with the same alerts.

Is there a cheaper model?

Yes, the Gravity connected rain gauge is our entry-level model. The Davis earns its keep when accuracy in strong wind and the robustness of the mechanism matter.
