Wine cellar temperature monitoring at the Mas Numérique (Institut Agro Montpellier)
The need
The Mas Numérique, on the Domaine du Chapitre estate (Institut Agro Montpellier), is the showcase site for digital agriculture in Occitanie. FURGO sensors are trialled there in real conditions, and the results of those trials are published.
In the wine cellar, temperature governs winemaking and the proper keeping of the wine. An undetected drift — a fermentation running away, a room heating up in summer — can cost an entire vintage. The team wanted continuous monitoring, without heavy cabling or a subscription.
The FURGO solution
FURGO instrumented the wine cellar with its self-contained temperature sensors: continuous measurement during winemaking and storage, and an immediate alert as soon as a threshold is crossed. No gateway to install, no Wi-Fi required: the SIM card is included and the sensors work as soon as they are in place.
The same hardware is available in the catalogue: the cellar temperature monitoring relies on the building block shared across the whole range, the one used in the frost alarm sensor, connected to the Supervisor.
What FURGO took away from it
This project validated FURGO sensors in a real cellar environment: humidity, stainless-steel tanks, closed building. The lessons from the trial feed directly into the design of the production products, in particular the tuning of alert thresholds for winemaking.
